New wines – its always a treat to meet up with our wine suppliers and see what’s new. The most difficult part is finding space on the list for their great suggestions. Here’s a selection of special quaffable wines for summer that we just couldn’t resist.
Mandarosa – Grillo
We love wines from Sicily, must be something about the sunshine and the proximity to the sea and mountains. This is the first of two new Italian wines on the list. Dry but succulent this pairs so well with seafood but is lovely to quaff in the sunshine. The vineyards are situated close to the sea, where intense sunlight, moderating sea breezes, mild temperatures, multiple elevations and a myriad of different soil types combine perfectly.
Domanie les Filles de September Rose.
We keep listing wines from Languedoc in South West France. They just seem to offer the best in quality value we can find and no exception here. Luscious and full bodied you can feel the love of the winemaker here.
Aus Rhodt Pinot Noir Stefan Meyer
From the village of Rhodt unter Rietburg, Stefan Meyer’s Pinot Noir is a result of his ‘minimal intervention’ wine making policy, which yields wines of great charm and character. A lovely smooth Pinot in a Burgundian style – regular Tudor Farmhouse Wine List watchers will know we do love a good Pinot!
Vigneti del Vulture, `Pipoli` Aglianico del Vulture
This second Italian addition is garnet red in colour. The nose has layered, highly complex aromas with hints of underbrush, violets and cocoa. The vineyards belonging to this estate are planted on the volcanic soils of the slopes of Mount Vulture at altitudes of up to 800 metres above sea level. The area is one of Italy’s most remote and poorest. Isolated and uncontaminated it is, according to consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini, like stepping back in time a few centuries. The results are gorgeous!
Thanks as ever to our wine suppliers. On this occasion Yapp Bros. @Yappaboutwine and Liberty Wines @liberty_wines
