Nature Journaling – A New Experience at Tudor Farmhouse

Nature Journaling

With the beautiful Forest of Dean on our doorstep, we never miss an opportunity to really embrace our surroundings and find different ways to deepen our connection and share these with our guests. This is why nature journaling is something we’re very excited about!

Join us for a Nature Journal Safari
We’re very excited to announce our very first Wildlife Safari focusing on nature journaling led by our very own wildlife expert, Ed Drewitt.

Running on 20th July and 12th October, this is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and to create memories through words, sketches and doodles whilst your small group is expertly guided.

If you haven’t yet come across it, nature journaling is the practice of journaling whilst you immerse yourself in nature. It is a practice which really encourages you to slow down and be more mindful about what you see, hear and experience rather than grabbing a phone or camera.

Write, sketch, paint… how you document the landscape, wildlife and plants around you is entirely up to you. Your journal can be anything you want it to be, from personal observations and feelings to a more scientific recording of facts. Or, you may even be inspired to write down a series of words which form a poem about your experience later.

The goal of nature journaling is to connect more deeply to your surroundings and to grow your understanding of the natural world.

Ed will meet the group at dusk to lead them on an 2 hour walk through the forest. This is the perfect time to experience a vast array of fauna becoming more active. The pace will be slow with plenty of stopping points to give time to journaling. It’s fun, relaxing and many find it a highly beneficial practice to slow down and see the wonders of nature in a whole new way. It is not about the best drawings or being inspired to write a blockbuster. It is all about capturing memories in a different way to using a camera or smart phone .. a more mindful process.

You can find our more about all of our wildlife safaris here.

Ed Drewitt is a naturalist, broadcaster and wildlife detective based here in the Forest of Dean. You can also book a private nature journal walk with Ed for a tailor-made experience that is sure to be fascinating, fun and informative.
